SharePoint migration: the full story
Post-merger confusion
Our client is a specialist insurer with headquarters in Japan and offices in 21 cities worldwide. Being in the business of assessing a constantly changing pattern of global risk, fast and effective communication was vital to the company’s success.
But at the time of contacting Influential Software, the company had undergone a merger that left it with multiple incompatible intranets. What’s more, none of these platforms were well-used by staff. Inexpert attempts to consolidate the platforms had resulted in spiralling costs and missed deadlines. There was an urgent need to find and implement a solution.
Migration to unified SharePoint
The plan was to migrate all the company’s legacy SharePoint sites—including 2003, 2007, and 2010 versions—onto a single modern platform. Having worked with all of those versions over the years, Influential Software had the required expertise.
First of all, our consultants reviewed the existing SharePoint sites in detail and provided the client with a migration proposal. This covered any custom or additional features that were desired in the end product.
The migration itself had to take into account all the content and features of the multiple SharePoint instances. Custom coding and plug-ins were transferred and adapted so that they continued functioning in the new solution. Access permissions and meta data also had to be transferred in tandem with the content.
Throughout this process, the client was encouraged to provide feedback on the platform, and our developers adjusted accordingly. This agile approach allowed us to finish the project ahead of schedule and provide full client satisfaction.
“Influential Software had successfully completed projects for us before… but the SharePoint intranet’s effect on collaboration far exceeded expectations.”
Bringing the company together
By moving to a single, modern platform, the client managed to raise adoption to close to 100 percent. The new SharePoint platform became staff’s default for information and communication, saving them countless hours of inefficient searching.
This in turn played a large role in cementing the client’s culture and encouraging universal standards after the recent merger. Teams around the world had access to the same up-to-date documents at the same time, which eliminated uncertainty and enabled staff to focus on productive work.
And as the company continued to grow, staff were safe in the knowledge that the SharePoint platform would scale with them.
